"Your Mobile CT Scan Van"
Patient Information for CT Scans
Computed tomography (CT) is a method of body imaging in which a thin x-ray beam rotates around the patient. Small detectors measure the amount of x-rays that make it through the patient or particular area of interest.
A computer analyzes the data to construct a cross-sectional image. These images can be stored, viewed on a monitor, or printed on film. These images will assist your doctor in the treatment planning process.
We use an NewTom VGdental scanner, and the scan will be complete in 18-28 seconds. Radiation exposure for these types of scans is very minimal. You will be exposed to only 3.5 seconds and 68 uSv of radiation, which is less than the amount of radiation you would received from spending an afternoon in sun. This is significantly less than a hospital CT scan which can expose you to 1500-3000 uSv of radiation.
You will remain fully clothed during the procedure, as it is only a scan of your head and neck. You will NOT need to refrain from eating or drinking, and NO shots or liquids will be given prior to the scan. You will have to remove all metal from your head and neck. This includes, but is not limited to: metal dentures, glasses, and jewelry (including tongue rings).
Payment for all scans is due at the time the scan is taken. Please be prepared to pay for the scan at the time services are rendered unless other arrangements have been made with your doctor’s office.
From start to finish, the whole process should take less than 20 minutes. The images will be made accessible promptly for your doctor. In some cases however, the images may not be available immediately.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your doctor’s office.
***Please inform patient of the following instructions before date of their scan.
You may also give them one of the provided sheets labels Patient Information for CT Scans***
